MARIETTA — The Cook’s Shop, an independent kitchenware retailer, has made a donation of $1,000 to the Friends of Forgotten Feline.
The non-profit 501(c)3 organization is a volunteer organization dedicated to the care and health of the feral cat community found at the Washington County Fairgrounds. Its aim is to reduce the number of abandoned cats by executing a trap, neuter and release program.
By making sure all cats are spayed or neutered, it ensures the colony stays healthy and manageable. The goal is to provide daily feedings, loving care and dependable shelter to the fairground cats.
“Friends of Forgotten Feline has spayed or neutered over 150 cats this year and adopted out over 400 cats since 2015,” Dagmar Kupsche, owner of The Cook’s Shop, said. “They do the work that the local animal shelters can’t do, and they do it through volunteer labor on a shoe string budget. When we found out that their year-end budget was stretched we were more than happy to help.”
The donation will cover the building of a new housing and a feeding station for 35 to 40 cats living at the Fairgrounds, said Anne Etter, a volunteer with the group.
“It will give them a warm and dry home through the winter,” Etter said.
