Beginning in the new year, the Fredonia Central School District will look to honor employees from over the years in a different way. Fredonia’s development of a school Wall of Honor should be underway at the beginning in January.
The Wall of Honor was put in place by a guiding document in late 2019, and it’s designed to recognize employees who have left a lasting impression on the Fredonia School District. The Wall of Honor is different from the Hall of Fame, as those honorees are restricted to Fredonia alumni.
As it stands, the Wall of Honor committee is made up of two Fredonia school board members, Aaron Marshall and Brian Aldrich, and two administrative volunteers, who are Amy Piper and Greg Lauer, along with Fredonia Superintendent Dr. Bradley Zilliox. Zilliox anticipates the committee needing three or four meetings before a selection is made.
“We will be reviewing nominations and selecting a person to be honored,” he said.
There are six different criteria for the committee to consider when selecting someone to the Fredonia Wall of Fame, but they all boil down to having a commitment to the Fredonia school district and those who left a lasting impact on the district.
The committee is limited to selecting one person per year, but applications for the Wall of Honor will roll over from year to year for up to five years for those who don’t get selected. With the committee meetings scheduled to begin in 2022, Zilliox is hoping for a proper celebration to occur, provided COVID-19 allows it.

“Hopefully with everything being available, we’ll be having a ceremony and a celebration of that person’s accomplishments,” Zilliox said. “We look forward to celebrating some of the good work of district members from the past.”
While the committee may select one person to the Wall of Honor per year, they don’t have to select anyone at all if the committee feels as though there is no one deserving. Currently, Zilliox said there are already a couple applications in for the Fredonia Wall of Honor, but there’s nothing stopping more applications from coming in before the committee meetings begin.
Additionally, Zilliox said that a Wall of Honor recognition could be awarded posthumously.
