BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Anyone looking to disconnect from the modern world can now book a comfortable, cozy tiny cabin in Homochitto National Forest. Located a little more than two hours north of New Orleans, Getaway House’s newest outpost is in Meadville, MS. Guests “check-in” effortlessly for a vacation that allows them to “check-out” amongst the wonder of nature.
Getaway House, founded in 2015, focuses on giving city dwellers a place to unplug just a few hours’ drive outside a major city. New in 2022, Homochitto is a destination for people in south Louisiana. Baton Rouge residents spend the majority of their one-hour and 45-minute drive headed north on Hwy 19.
Keeping up with the times, vacationers will experience a completely contactless adventure. One hour before the 3 p.m. check-in time, a text alert is sent to the party’s phone with an electronic passcode for entry. Once on-site, each tiny cabin is named after either an employee or guest’s grandparent.
Preparing for your trip is simple. Getaway House ensures you can pack light by providing “everything you need, and nothing you don’t.” The tiny cabin features a queen bed, stocked kitchen and outdoor fire pit with Adirondack chairs. Provisions like tea and coffee are provided for a small fee. Guests will also find logs and fire starters located outside the cabin.
Homochitto also offers cabins with two queen beds. Guests need only specify their preference when booking. Each cabin features a large picture window by the bed, allowing guests to fall asleep under the stars and wake up with the sun.
Getaway House encourages guests to put away their cellphones by providing a so-called wooden lockbox. The intention is to stay off social media and live with your own thoughts during your stay. A landline is provided in case you need to reach someone on property.
Suggestions for nearby nature walks, books and games are also provided. Each cabin has a two-person dining table inside and a picnic table outside. Heating and air conditioning, along with a modern stand-up shower with shampoo, conditioner and body wash also come standard.
