Holger Jay Houmand
1932 ~ 2021
Holger Jay Houmand, 88, passed away peacefully at home on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 2021.
Jay was born to Holger (Holly) and Josie Houmand on December 19, 1932 in Midvale, Utah.
He graduated from Jordan High School. He then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean war as part of the Signal Corp in El Paso, Texas.
He married Carmen Lloyd on November 10, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple. They recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.
A devoted husband and father, Jay had a long and distinguished career at Texaco, Inc. in Salt Lake City, Port Arthur and Houston, Texas. He won numerous truck driving competitions locally and nationally because of his talent and skill in operating big-rig trucks. He holds a Million Mile Accident Free designation from the National Safety Council.
He was an accomplished and award winning visual artist working in many mediums such as oils, acrylics and specializing later in life in watercolors. He had a talent for fixing, inventing and finding a better way to accomplish almost anything he set his mind to doing.
He served in his church as a Bishop’s counselor, High Council member, Stake and Ward Clerk. He is survived by his wife Carmen, children: Catherine (Dean Gardner), Alyson (Mike Pace), Ryan, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa, parents, Holly and Josie and his brother Don.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 3, 2021, 1:00 pm. at the Crescent 11th Ward building, 89 East 11000 South, Sandy, UT. Viewing: Friday, December 3, 2021, preceding the funeral services from 11:00 am to 12:45 pm at the chapel. Burial: Midvale Cemetery.
