Four Maui County businesses — a truss builder, a baker, a rental car agency and a tire supplier — will be among 14 award winners honored at a ceremony and pau hana celebration from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. May 6 at the YWCA of Oahu.
Scott Loomer, president of Truss Systems Hawaii Inc. of Puunene, has been selected as the 2022 Small Business Person of the Year for the state by the SBA Hawaii-Pacific Islands District Office. The company will represent Hawaii in Washington D.C. via a virtual celebration of National Small Business Week from May 1-7, according to a news release.
In addition to Truss Systems Hawaii, the top small business owners representing the counties include:
• Maui County: Lynn Nalani Solu, Kihei Rent-A-Car.
• Hawaii County: Timothy and Sandra Heaton, Gypsea Gelato.
• Honolulu County: Erin Kanno Uehara, Choco le’a.
Other Maui County winners include Mitzi and Joey Toro of The Maui Cookie Lady, honored as a Women-Owned Business of the Year for Maui County, and Ronald Anthony Rodrigues of Commercial Tire Source in Kahului, honored as a Family-Owned Small Business of the Year for the State of Hawaii.
