GAME 23
Eastern Illinois hits a stretch of the season where the Panthers will play a game on the remaining Monday’s, Thursday’s and Saturday’s for the month of February as they close out their final nine games. The Monday contests are due to rescheduled games, two due to COVID in January and one due to weather last week. EIU will open that stretch of games at Tennessee Tech in the first of two games this week against the Golden Eagles. EIU is 4-18 overall, 2-7 in the OVC following a road loss at Southeast Missouri on Saturday which snapped EIU’s two game win streak. TTU enters at 5-18 overall, 2-8 in the OVC. The Golden Eagles have lost six straight with five of those six losses to the top three teams in the league. TTU is 4-6 at home this year but 1-4 in home OVC games.
PANTHERS WIN THE REBOUND BATTLE
Eastern Illinois won the battle on the boards on Saturday at Southeast Missouri finishing with a 32-26 rebound margin. It was just the fifth time this season that EIU has won the rebounding battle and the first time in an OVC contest. The last time EIU finished with a rebounding edge was November 28 against Evansville. In Saturday’s game Dan Luers pulled down a season high seven rebounds while Paul Bizimana and Kejuan Clements each had six. Rodolfo Bolis collected three of EIU’s eight offensive rebounds.
LANE PROVIDES SPARK OFF THE BENCH
Guard CJ Lane scored 11 points on Saturday at Southeast Missouri to finish as one of two Panthers in double figures in the road loss. It was the third time in OVC play that Lane has come off the bench to score in double figures. He had a season high 20 points in the OVC opener at Morehead State and had ten points at Murray State. Lane is the only EIU player to play in all 22 games this season and is second on the team with 25 made 3-pointers. He was 4-of-4 at the foul line at SEMO and has made 15 of his last 17 at the charity stripe.
