We know the image too well, but they’re not always as effortlessly flawless as we think. Travel influencer Danae Mercer revealed the reality of what actually goes into those perfect travel snaps in a new Instagram post, and wow, it is eye-opening.
Mercer, a travel influencer and journalist is known for sharing very welcome home truths online in a series called ‘ Things I’ve learned are ‘fake’ this week.’ In her most recent post, Mercer shared a travel edition, in which she shared a video that reveals just how travel influencers get the pictures nobody else can seem to get.

Mercer accompanied the post with a lengthy caption explaining the messaging behind it and tagging the various content creators whose clips she used to make the video:
“So back before all of this, I was primarily a travel journalist,” Mercer said. “And I learned just how much WORK goes into creating that ‘dreamy travel pic.’
“Content creators wake up early. And wait in queues. And carry cute outfits with them. And take hundreds of shots. And edit things in. And edit things out. And apply presets (light filters). All to get that one perfect pic.

“Which is art and storytelling,” she continued. “But also not quite entirely what most folks experience when they travel to those ‘stunning spots’. So let all these amazingly transparent content creators remind you today that darling, you’re doing great.
Your holiday snaps are wonderful. Your vacation was great. And your travel pics are worthy. Even if they look so different to those that we see online.”
We’ll never look at those sunbathing beach pics the same way again.
